Where Has All the Colour Gone?

Why I believe our homes should tell our stories‍ ‍

When I look back at photos from the 1950s, 60s and 70s, colour was everywhere. Cars had personality. Kitchens were joyful. Furniture was bold. Clothing was bright and expressive.

Our homes weren't just spaces we lived in-they reflected who we were.

Somewhere along the way, many of our homes became quieter. White, beige, grey and neutral tones became the safe choice. And while there is absolutely nothing wrong with loving a calm, neutral home (we all have different tastes), I do wonder if we have lost a little of the joy that colour can bring.

Because for me, colour is so much more than decoration.

Colour is more than something we see

Colour has the ability to change how we feel.

A bright wall, a colourful artwork or a favourite piece of furniture can instantly lift a room and bring a smile to our face.

For me, colour brings energy, creativity and happiness. It inspires me, sparks ideas and makes me feel alive.

I often say that my eyes and my soul need a daily dose of colour-and perhaps this is why my studio is filled with bright paints, bold combinations and endless experiments.

When I create, I'm not just choosing colours because they look good together. I'm choosing colours because of the feelings they create.

Joy.
Playfulness.
Warmth.
Nostalgia.
A sense of freedom.

Your home should feel like you

Trends come and go, but your home is the place where you should feel most yourself.

There are no rules that say your walls need to be a certain colour or your decor needs to match what is currently popular.

If a bright pink cushion makes you smile every time you walk past it, that's the right cushion.

If a colourful artwork makes you happy every morning when you have your coffee, that's the right artwork.

Your home should be filled with the things that tell your story.

It should be your sanctuary.

Why I paint with colour

Perhaps this is why I am drawn to creating bright, joyful artwork.

Painting allows me to share the happiness I find in colour and hopefully encourage others to embrace it too.

I want my artwork to bring a little moment of joy into someone's day. A reminder that it is okay to choose colour. It is okay to be drawn to things that make you smile. It is okay to create a home that feels uniquely yours.

My creative journey has changed and evolved over the years, but this part has always remained the same:

I believe colour has the power to bring happiness into our everyday lives.

So maybe it's time we stop asking:

"What is trending?"

And start asking:

"What makes me happy?"

Because the most beautiful homes aren't necessarily the ones that follow all the rules.

They are the ones that tell the story of the people who live inside them.

If you are someone who believes your home should be filled with pieces that bring joy and personality, I would love you to explore my colourful creations.

Thank you for joining me in my colourful corner of the world.

Colourful wishes from the studio,
Deb
